Maha Pol Crisis: BJP Leader Devendra Fadnavis Reaches Delhi

Guwahati: Former state chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis arrived in Delhi on Tuesday amid the political climate within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra.

He arrived in Delhi following a Monday meeting of the BJP’s Maharashtra unit’s core committee to discuss the political climate in the state. A total of 48 dissident MLAs from Maharashtra including 39 rebel MLAs from the Shiv Sena, have been residing in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati since June 22.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had advised Devendra Fadnavis and the BJP earlier in the day not to get embroiled in the crisis developing in the MVA government.

The Supreme Court has now been involved in the political conflict in Maharashtra between the Shiv Sena and the breakaway faction headed by Eknath Shinde. The disqualification proceedings against Shinde and 15 other rebel MLAs are contested in the arguments made by the breakaway group.

Shiv Sena denied claims that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had phoned BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis to support the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) administration. In an official statement, Shiv Sena spokesperson Harshal Pradhan said, “Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray called Devendra Fadnavis to save the government some such news is going on but this news is only to mislead. Whatever, Uddhav Thackeray has to say, he speaks publicly.”
