Maharashtra: 15 Killed, More Feared Trapped as Girder Launching Machine Collapses in Thane
National Desk, 1st August: As many as 15 workers died after a girder machine crashed on them while working on the third section of the Samruddhi Expressway in Thane district of Maharashtra on Tuesday.
Following the incident, two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were dispatched to the location to conduct rescue efforts. According to the NDRF, at least five people are feared to be trapped within the fallen structure.
The machine is a mobile gantry crane designed specifically for bridge construction. It is used in highway and high-speed rail bridge construction projects to install precast box girders.
The rescue operation includes employees from the police and fire departments, as well as municipal authorities. The death toll is likely to rise.
