Maharashtra: Nursing Student Allegedly Raped by Autorickshaw Driver in Ratnagiri; Protests Erupt

National Desk, 27th August: In a distressing incident in Ratnagiri district, a 20-year-old nursing student was allegedly raped by an autorickshaw driver while returning from college. The survivor, who was found injured, is currently receiving medical treatment.

Reports indicate that the autorickshaw driver offered the student water laced with sedatives, causing her to lose consciousness. She was then reportedly taken to a secluded area where the assault occurred. After regaining her senses, the student contacted her family, who subsequently alerted the authorities.

The case has ignited widespread protests from the local nursing community and hospital staff, who have blocked traffic in various parts of Ratnagiri. Demonstrators are calling for swift justice and stringent action against the accused. Local authorities have vowed a thorough investigation and have urged the public to stay calm.

The police are actively searching for the suspect, who is identified as the autorickshaw driver. Meanwhile, the survivor continues to recover at a local hospital, receiving both medical care and support.

This incident comes amid national outrage over a similar case in Kolkata, where a doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The primary suspect, Sanjay Roy, has confessed to the crime and is currently undergoing a lie-detector test.
