Maharashtra political crisis: Floor Test Likely Soon

Guwahati: The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government, led by Uddhav Thackeray is mired in political turmoil as a result of Minister Eknath Shinde’s departure for Guwahati with the majority of the Shiv Sena MLAs who have deserted the party.

The Supreme Court granted dissident Shiv Sena MLAs until July 12 to respond to the disqualification letters that Deputy Speaker Narahari Zirwal had issued to them, which is a significant relief for them. The top court also rejected a request from Thackeray’s government to delay having a floor test.

The renegade camp asserts that they are supported by 50 MLAs and that further MLAs would join them within the next three days. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari may require the Maharashtra administration to demonstrate the majority in the house shortly in such a circumstance.

It needs to be mentioned that a floor test can be explained as a motion initiated by the government in position seeking to know if it enjoys the confidence of the legislature. As part of this procedure, the chief minister appointed by the governor will be asked to prove majority on the Legislative Assembly’s floor.
