Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Offers to Step Down Following BJP’s Electoral Setback
National Desk, 5th June: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has made the decision to request the BJP leadership to relieve him of his responsibilities in the wake of the party’s disappointing performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The BJP’s seats in Maharashtra plummeted from 23 in 2019 to just nine this year, prompting Fadnavis, a senior BJP leader, to take full responsibility for the electoral setback.
In a press conference following a review meeting on the Lok Sabha results, Fadnavis expressed his intention to focus on strengthening the party organization at the grassroots level. He emphasized his desire to devote his full time and energy to improving the BJP’s performance in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Fadnavis, who was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Eknath Shinde-led government on June 30, 2022, highlighted his commitment to the party’s growth and success. His decision reflects a willingness to prioritize the party’s interests and work towards regaining ground in future electoral battles.
