Mahua Moitra replaces ‘sexual harassment’ with ‘Gogoi’ amid ‘Unparliamentary’ words list row
Guwahati: Trinamool Congress’s Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra attacked the Lok Sabha Secretariat’s list of “unparliamentary” phrases and poked fun at the government of India by equating it to the Ranjan Gogoi sexual harassment case.
“My first of new twitter series on replacements for unparliamentary words. Banned word-Sexual Harassment. Replacement – Mr. Gogoi,” Moitra said in a tweet.
She added, “Just for those sanghis twisting tweet to say I targetted all Gogois let me spell it out: Mister Ranjan Gogoi. Honourable MP, Rajya Sabha.”
A former Supreme Court employee who filed affidavits alleging that the Chief Justice had harassed her sexually accused Gogoi of the offence in April 2019. Gogoi denied the accusations and called them a plot to undermine the independence of the court. A month later, a three-judge internal investigative committee exonerated him.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat has updated its list of these phrases and clauses under the heading “Unparliamentary Words 2021” in the section titled “Unparliamentary Expressions.”
The pamphlet has caused a commotion, with the leaders of the Opposition sharply condemning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and making fun of the federal government by inventing alternate definitions for the phrases.
