Major Administrative Overhaul Witnessed as Assam Government Transfers Top Officials
Guwahati, Assam – In a move signaling a renewed focus on governance, the Assam government has initiated a significant reshuffle within its administrative ranks, transferring and assigning new roles to a total of twenty Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers. The sweeping changes impact various key departments and districts across the state.
Among the notable appointments, Monuj Kumar Baruah, an ACS officer currently holding the positions of Additional Secretary in the Science, Technology & Climate Change Department and Director of Guwahati Planetarium, has been entrusted with the responsibility of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zilla Parishad, Jorhat. Similarly, Satish Chandra Thakuria, ACS, who was serving as Joint Secretary in the Tea Tribes & Adivasi Welfare Department, has been posted as the new CEO of Zilla Parishad, Sivasagar. Further expanding the administrative changes at the district level, Monuranjan Payeng, ACS, previously the Additional Director at the Assam Administrative Staff College, has been transferred and appointed as the CEO of Zilla Parishad, Lakhimpur. Pankaj Chamuah, ACS, who was serving in the Health & Family Welfare Department, will now take on the role of Additional Deputy Commissioner in Tinsukia district.
Several other crucial transfers and postings have been made across different departments. Bhaskar Jyoti Rajbongshi, ACS, who held the position of Deputy Secretary in the Higher Education Department, is now slated to serve as Joint Secretary in the Bodoland Territorial Council, Kokrajhar. Anurag Phukan, ACS, who was serving as Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Chirang, has been transferred to Darrang in the same capacity. Amrita Dutta, ACS, previously an Assistant Commissioner in Gossaigaon, will now serve as an Assistant Commissioner in Baksa. Nirmal Kanti Debnath, ACS, has been moved from the Fishery Department and will now take on the responsibilities of Additional Secretary in the School Education Department.
In the IAS cadre, Kriti Chachra, who was serving as ADC i/c Bijni, has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary in the Housing & Urban Affairs Department, and will also hold the additional charge of Joint Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation. Arjit Mahajan, IAS, the Sub-Divisional Officer (S) of Dibrugarh, has been posted as the Additional District Commissioner i/c of Bijni.
Further adjustments within the ACS cadre include the transfer of Garga Mohan Das, who was ADC, Sonitpur, to the position of ADC, Kamrup. Priyanshu Bharadwaj, previously the Co-District Commissioner of Kamrup (M), will now serve as ADC, Kamrup. Oswin Nampui’s earlier posting order has been cancelled, and he is now appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Tribal Affairs (P) Department. Kamal Baruah, who was serving as ADC, Kamrup, has been reassigned as the Co-District Commissioner of Jagiroad, while Biman Das, the former Co-District Commissioner of Jagiroad, will now serve as ADC, Baksa. Shri Chinmoy Pathak, an ACS officer of the DR-16 batch who was serving as ADC, Tinsukia, has been transferred to the Personnel Department as Deputy Secretary. Dharitri Kakati Amphi, who was an Assistant Commissioner in Barpeta, will now serve as an Assistant Commissioner in Baksa. Kritartha Neog, previously an Assistant Commissioner in Jorhat, has been posted as Assistant Commissioner in Doomdooma, Tinsukia. Barsha Talukdar, who was an Assistant Commissioner in Naduar, Sonitpur, has been transferred as Assistant Commissioner in Dibrugarh. Rounding out the list of transfers, Monjit Doley, the Assistant Commissioner of Doomdooma, has been moved to Jorhat in the same capacity.
The state government has issued a directive for all the transferred officers to assume their new responsibilities with immediate effect. This extensive administrative reshuffle is being viewed as a strategic move by the Assam government to enhance the efficiency of its administrative machinery and ensure improved delivery of public services to the citizens across the state.
