Major Arms Cache Recovered in Manipur’s Imphal East District
Imphal: Security forces, in a concerted effort to maintain peace and security, conducted extensive search and area domination operations throughout the vulnerable hill and valley regions of Manipur.
During one such operation, a significant breakthrough was achieved in the Nungjengbi Urup Hill area, which falls under the Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East District. Authorities discovered a substantial quantity of arms, ammunition, and riot control gear meticulously hidden within a white sack.
The recovered items present a concerning inventory, including one .303 rifle accompanied by a magazine, a 9 mm pistol along with three magazines, and a locally manufactured pistol. Furthermore, six live rounds of 9 mm pistol ammunition, three .303 light machine gun (LMG) magazines, and seven carbine magazines were also seized. The cache also contained six live rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, nineteen live rounds of AK-47 (5.56 mm) ammunition, and a wood-piercing shell. In addition, 410 empty cases of 7.62 mm rounds, six mini flare tubes (tube launchers), five normal tear smoke shells, two tear chili smoke shells, and two Motorola wireless set batteries were among the recovered materials.
In the wake of this discovery, security forces have reinforced their operational tempo, prioritizing the safety and security of the civilian population and actively working to prevent the potential misuse of these dangerous weapons in areas susceptible to conflict. A thorough investigation has been launched to ascertain the origin of the recovered arms and to explore any potential connections to insurgent groups or individuals engaged in anti-social activities.
Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their unwavering commitment to proactively address and curtail the spread of illegal firearms within the region, underscoring their dedication to maintaining law and order.
