Major Blow to Militancy as Manipur Police Nab Eight KCP (PWG) Operatives, Recover Arms Cache
Imphal: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against insurgency, Manipur police forces successfully apprehended eight members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) on April 20th, confiscating a large quantity of arms and related materials.
The coordinated operations unfolded across two districts, dealing a considerable blow to the activities of the banned outfit.
The initial arrest occurred in the Wangoi area of Imphal West district, where police detained 37-year-old Umananda Sharungbam.
This initial success paved the way for a subsequent and more extensive operation carried out later the same day in the Thoubal district.
Acting on intelligence gathered, security forces executed a cordon and search operation at the YBC Club, situated near the SDC office in Heirok Part-III. This strategic move resulted in the apprehension of seven more individuals identified as active members of the KCP (PWG), including one juvenile.
The identities of the arrested adult militants were revealed as Waikhom Dinku, Mayangmayum Ribaz Khan (alias Pat), Angom Bobi (alias Wataba), Ningthoujam Choaba Singh (alias Hingchaba), Leishangthem Tomba (alias Thabal Meitei), and Md. Sirajuddin (alias Kham). Their capture is expected to significantly disrupt the operational capabilities of the group in the region.
The successful operations also led to the recovery of a substantial arsenal of weapons and ammunition. This included a highly potent INSAS light machine gun, along with two INSAS rifles, a carbine accompanied by three magazines, and an MA3 MK-11 rifle.
The seized ammunition comprised 76 rounds of INSAS rifle ammunition and 69 rounds of 9mm ammunition, in addition to other unspecified live rounds.
Beyond the firearms and ammunition, law enforcement officials also confiscated a variety of other incriminating materials. Thirteen mobile phones, radio communication equipment, and several vehicles were seized, suggesting an established communication and logistical network within the group.
Furthermore, KCP badges and a large assortment of military-pattern clothing and gear were recovered, indicating the group’s organizational structure and operational preparedness. Authorities also reported the seizure of documents described as “literature,” which are likely to be scrutinized for further intelligence.
