Major Drug Bust at Assam-Tripura Border, Rs 5 Crore Cough Syrup Seized
Assam: In a major breakthrough, Assam Police have intercepted a massive haul of contraband cough syrup worth approximately Rs 5 crore at the Churaibari border checkpoint.
The seized cough syrup, identified as ESKUF, was found concealed beneath onion sacks in a goods truck bearing registration number UP/75/AT/4207.
The operation, conducted by Churaibari police, led to the recovery of 44,000 bottles of the banned drug, packed in 294 cartons. Authorities suspect the consignment was being smuggled to Tripura. However, the truck driver managed to escape arrest, leaving law enforcement agencies on the trail of the culprits.
This significant seizure highlights the persistent threat of drug trafficking in the region. Police are actively investigating the matter to identify the individuals involved in this illicit operation and dismantle the network responsible for smuggling banned pharmaceuticals.
