Major Drug Bust at Guwahati Railway Station Nets Four Traffickers

Guwahati: Guwahati witnessed a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking today as the Government Railway Police (GRPS) successfully intercepted a large consignment of suspected cannabis at the city’s railway station.

The operation, executed on platform number 1, resulted in the recovery of 65.5 kilograms of the illicit substance and the apprehension of four individuals involved in its transportation.

Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, the GRPS team focused its efforts on Train No. 12423 DN New Delhi Rajdhani Express.

Their meticulous search yielded 44 packets containing the suspected contraband. Authorities confirmed that the accused individuals had boarded the train at Dimapur Railway Station with the intention of transporting the drugs to New Delhi.

Following the successful seizure, all four individuals involved were immediately taken into custody.

The arrested have been identified as Nongthombam Landson Singh, 22, from Imphal East, Manipur; Raireikhan Tungshang, 25, a resident of Ukhrul district, Manipur; James Kamei, 25, also from Imphal East, Manipur; and Pukhrambam Kanta Singh, 24, hailing from Bishnupur district, Manipur. Legal procedures have been initiated against them.

This operation is being hailed as a substantial achievement for law enforcement agencies working to combat the persistent issue of drug smuggling through railway networks in the Northeast region. Investigations are currently in progress to uncover the wider network and individuals potentially connected to this trafficking operation.
