Major Drug Seizure in Mizoram: Security Forces Confiscate Methamphetamine Worth Rs 7.2 Crore
CHAMPHAI, Nov 11 – In a significant crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, security forces seized methamphetamine valued at Rs 7.2 crore in Mizoram’s Champhai district on Monday. This operation is one of the largest drug busts in the region this month.
Acting on intelligence reports, a joint team of Assam Rifles and local police intercepted a suspicious vehicle, a white Swift Dzire, on the Zokhawthar-Melbuk Road. Upon spotting the security personnel, the suspects abandoned a blue bag and fled the scene. A thorough search of the bag revealed 2.399 kg of methamphetamine.
The seized vehicle, registered under MZ 01F 6155, and the confiscated contraband were handed over to Zokhawthar Police, who have initiated an investigation into the smuggling operation.
This operation follows another seizure just a day earlier, where Assam Rifles personnel, in coordination with the Land Customs Station, discovered 339 smuggled e-cigarettes worth Rs 8.59 lakh in the Zokhawthar area. The abandoned contraband was located during a routine patrol.
Champhai district, sharing a porous border with Myanmar, has become a critical route for drug trafficking, with an increase in smuggling attempts reported in recent months. Local law enforcement continues to intensify operations in the area to curb the inflow of illicit substances.
