Major Police Leadership Shuffle Unveiled for Enhanced Efficiency

Guwahati, 22nd August: In a strategic move to bolster the operational prowess of the Assam Police, a significant reshuffle of top-level officials has been executed, reflecting the commitment to public service and a meticulous approach to law enforcement. This series of transfers is poised to infuse new vigor and expertise into the city’s police force. The had been issued from the Home Department of Assam Government which is headed by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Effective immediately, Shri Akshat Garg, IPS (RR-2017), previously serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) within the Guwahati Police Commissionerate, has been redirected to the role of Deputy Commissioner of Police (East). This transition was facilitated by the transfer of Shri Surjeet Singh Panesar, APS (DR-2004), who was holding the East district position. Shri Garg’s reputation for tactical brilliance and administrative efficiency is anticipated to invigorate the policing approach in the Eastern district.

Shri Surjeet Singh Panesar, APS, brings his extensive experience to his new appointment as the Commandant of the 4th Assam Commando Battalion (Ops), stationed at Geleki, Kamalabari, Sivasagar. Replacing Shri Amitabh Basumatary, APS (DR-2004), Shri Panesar’s transfer underscores a commitment to aligning leadership expertise with operational responsibilities. The move is envisaged to enhance the preparedness and capabilities of the commando battalion.

Meanwhile, Shri Amitabh Basumatary’s esteemed tenure as the Commandant of the 4th Assam Commando Battalion (Ops) is succeeded by his transfer to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) within the Guwahati Police Commissionerate. Shri Basumatary’s demonstrated competence in leadership and crisis management is set to contribute significantly to the Central district’s law enforcement strategies.
