Major Step Forward: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Launch 75 Border Infrastructure Projects Valued at ₹2,236 Crore
National: In a substantial advancement for India’s border infrastructure, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to inaugurate 75 new projects developed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), with a total investment of ₹2,236 crore. This significant initiative brings the total number of infrastructure projects completed this year to 111, amounting to an estimated ₹3,751 crore.
The newly launched projects are strategically located across vital regions, including 19 in Jammu and Kashmir, 11 in Ladakh, 18 in Arunachal Pradesh, 9 in Uttarakhand, 6 in Sikkim, 5 in Himachal Pradesh, and 2 each in West Bengal and Rajasthan. Additionally, there is one project each in Nagaland, Mizoram, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Among the notable projects is the Kupup-Sherathang Road in Sikkim, which is expected to serve as a crucial alternative route for the Indian Army, enhancing the movement of personnel and equipment. This road links the Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg with the Zuluk Axis, thereby increasing the region’s strategic significance.
At the inauguration event, Singh praised the BRO for its dedication to improving accessibility in remote and border areas. He highlighted that over the last five years, the BRO has completed 450 projects, investing over ₹16,000 crore. He emphasized the importance of completing roads and bridges on time, commending the swift execution of the new 75 projects as a clear demonstration of the BRO’s commitment to national security and infrastructure development.
The launch of these projects not only marks a significant investment in border infrastructure but also reflects the government’s determination to bolster connectivity and ensure the security of sensitive areas across the nation.
