Malaria Outbreak Worsens in Assam’s Kokrajhar District
Assam: A sharp surge in malaria cases has raised serious health concerns in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, with 1,991 cases reported as of November 20, 2024, compared to just 256 cases in 2023.
Tragically, two lives have been lost in the past week, including a 4-year-old girl, Shivani Monger from Saralpara, and 27-year-old Jwngsar Wary from Aitugaon village.
Dr. P. Brahma, District Malaria Officer, confirmed that 1,901 cases have been diagnosed since January, identifying Kokrajhar as one of Assam’s high-risk districts, particularly areas bordering Bhutan. To combat the outbreak, health officials are distributing medicated bed nets, spraying DDT, and conducting awareness camps.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take precautions to protect themselves from the vector-borne disease. The health department’s efforts aim to control the spread of malaria and safeguard the community through consistent remedial programs.
