Mamata Banerjee Terms ‘Shameful Act’ on Gandhi Look-Alike Asura

Guwahati: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee finally spoke out over the Gandhi-like asura statue made during the Durga Puja in Kolkata on Thursday, calling it a “Shameful Act.”

Although CM Banerjee expressed disappointment, she refrained from expressing it because doing so might have sparked demonstrations during Puja.

She stated, “An idol resembling Mahatma Gandhi was displayed during Durga Puja in Asura’s place. What sort of punishment is appropriate for them? Such a disgusting act will elicit a response from the people. Despite being disappointed, I kept quiet because there might have been demonstrations during Puja.”

Notably, a dispute erupted following a Durga Puja held by the All India Hindu Mahasabha in Kolkata when ‘Mahisasura’ was reportedly represented as Mahatma Gandhi.

However, the organisers adjusted and got rid of the face under pressure from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
