Guwahati: A 50-year-old man, Haris Uddin, has been apprehended by Nilambazar Police on April 3, following allegations of attempted sexual assault against a minor girl in the Dasgram area of Sribhumi, Assam.
According to Sribhumi Superintendent of Police (SP) Partha Pratim Das, the accused allegedly entered the victim’s residence with the intent to commit sexual assault, taking advantage of the vacant house. The victim, a Hindu girl, was allegedly attacked by Haris Uddin, a Muslim man.
Upon receiving initial reports, law enforcement officers responded promptly, apprehending the accused and initiating a formal investigation. The victim has been admitted to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
SP Das stated that the accused fled the scene, anticipating the arrival of the victim’s family members. The victim is currently recovering and has undergone medical examination.
The incident has raised significant concerns regarding community safety, particularly in light of a separate sexual harassment incident on a public bus that occurred within the past 24 hours.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent potential law and order disturbances, given the religious affiliations of the individuals involved. Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) have been deployed to the area to oversee the situation and ensure the apprehension of all involved parties.
