Man Arrested for Bank Robbery in Manipur, Rs 3 Lakh Recovered by Police

Imphal: In a significant breakthrough, Manipur police arrested a man on Wednesday in connection with a bank robbery in Kakching district, where over Rs 6 lakh was stolen.

The arrest follows a week-long investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police.

DIG (Range 2) Haobijam Jogeshchandra, in a press briefing, confirmed that the accused had looted Rs 6,49,000 from a nationalised bank on October 16.

The suspect reportedly entered the bank, forcing an unarmed security guard at gunpoint to lead him inside. Once inside, he locked the staff in the manager’s room and made off with the cash.

During the arrest, the police recovered Rs 3,03,500 from the man’s possession. Jogeshchandra stated that efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining amount and the weapon used during the heist.

Further investigations are underway as authorities work to trace any accomplices and fully resolve the case.
