Man Arrested With Gecko In Guwahati

Guwahati: In the Basistha area, city police arrested a man who was in possession of a gecko on Tuesday.

The individual who was arrested has been identified as Pranab Ranghang.

According to reports, the arrest was made based on specific information regarding a potential wildlife trade effort .

The Gecko that had been saved was later given to the forest department for further action.

Many people think that geckos especially Tokay geckos have therapeutic benefits and are therefore trafficked for these purposes. It is mostly found in several places of China and its fluid or blood is reported to be helpful in curing cancer.

Reportedly, the cost of a single gecko might reach multiple lakhs.

However, there is no scientific evidence to support any purported healing properties of a Tokay Gecko’s or any other gecko’s bodily secretions.

Other factors, such as the glue’s chemical makeup, which allows geckos to adhere to virtually any surface, are another. However, it is claimed that this research complies with legal restrictions.
