Man ends life by jumping into Brahmaputra River After Writing Suicide Note to CM in Guwahati
Guwahati, Assam – A tragic incident unfolded on the Brahmaputra River yesterday afternoon when a man reportedly ended his life by jumping from a passenger ferry, leaving behind a poignant suicide note addressed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The shocking event, witnessed by stunned passengers, has prompted a search operation in the river.
The individual, identified as Golok Rajbongshi of Dahudi in Nalbari district, made the fatal leap around 3:20 PM from the MV Bhagirathi, a ferry regularly plying between Guwahati and North Guwahati’s Rajaduar. Passengers onboard watched in horror as Rajbongshi plunged into the swirling waters.
Before his desperate act, Rajbongshi left a small, somber collection on the ferry deck: a pair of sandals, 300 rupees in cash, and a handwritten letter. The letter, addressed directly to the Chief Minister, cited profound ill health and emotional distress as the reasons for his decision, while also containing two final, heartfelt appeals.
“Due to physical illness I took this step. No one is to be blamed for this,” Rajbongshi’s note read, a final testament to his suffering. He then implored, “I have only two requests for the Hon’ble Chief Minister. First, please ensure job placement for my only son. Second, do not instruct SDRF or NDRF to search for my body. Let me disappear into the horizon of the river.”
Following the alarm, immediate search and rescue efforts were launched in the Brahmaputra by authorities. However, as of late yesterday, Rajbongshi’s body remains untraced, leaving a community grappling with the sudden loss and the powerful message he left behind.
