Man held for cheating 40 women in Mumbai
Guwahati: A 34-year-old man has been detained by the Mumbai Police for reportedly defrauding at least 40 women after meeting them on marriage websites.
The accused identified as Vishal Suresh Chavan alias Anurag Chavan.
According to reports, Chavan has been accused of extorting money from women on the promise of marriage in multiple cases.
However, he is accused of defrauding at least 30 people by offering to buy them the most recent iPhones.
It may be noted that cases against the suspected offender have been filed all across the city. In addition, he is facing a rape charge in court.
According to the police, more than 40 women have fallen prey to his extortion schemes. He was previously arrested on a similar allegation and was released on bond after paying the extorted money to the court.
Meanwhile, he has been arrested again, as new cases against the ‘registered cheater’ are being filed at several police stations.
