Man Held For Making Derogatory Remarks Against Manipur CM, BJP

Guwahati: Manipur police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly posting insults against the Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the ruling BJP.

The man identified as Laishram Malemnganba is charged with posting disparaging comments on Facebook regarding the CM and the BJP. He was taken into custody at his residence in the Waiton area of Imphal East.

According to reports, Malemnganba was arrested as a result of a complaint made by the state BJYM president, Manoharmayum Barish Sharma.

The complainant claimed that Malemnganba’s comments depicted the BJP in a negative light.

Malemnganba has been charged under sections 298 (uttering words, etc. with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the IPC.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
