Manipur: 44 Kukis Detained During Search Operation in Moreh

Northeast Desk, 1st November: A search operation conducted on November 1 in Moreh, Manipur, resulted in the detention of at least 44 individuals. Among them, 32 people were identified as being of Burmese origin. This operation was carried out by a combined team consisting of special commando units from the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, and the Border Security Force in Moreh’s market colony.

The crackdown in the region followed the shooting incident involving Moreh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chingtham Anand, who was allegedly shot dead in a suspected ambush by Kuki militants. The SDPO was reportedly overseeing ground cleaning for helicopter landing when the attack occurred. He sustained fatal injuries, with reports indicating that a sniper’s bullet had passed through his stomach.

The search operation aimed to maintain security and stability in vulnerable areas of the state following this tragic incident. The detention of individuals during the operation underscores the ongoing efforts to address concerns related to the situation in Moreh, Manipur.
