Manipur: Accused Bank Staff Apprehended After Allegedly Stealing Rs 2 Crore from SBI Bishnupur Branch

Northeast DEsk, 6th April: In a significant development, Monarch Laishram, a staff member at the State Bank of India (SBI) Bishnupur branch, who allegedly absconded after pilfering approximately Rs 2 crore from the bank, has been apprehended in North Delhi on Friday.

The 41-year-old suspect, hailing from Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai, under Nambol police station, was captured by the Delhi Crime Branch in collaboration with Delhi Police and Bishnupur District police. The arrest took place at Patel Chest Christian Colony, opposite Maurice Nagar Police Station, North Delhi, around 5.30 pm.

Reliable sources indicate that a team from the Bishnupur District police will transport the accused back on Saturday, likely by air.

According to the complaint filed by the SBI Bishnupur Branch at Nambol Police Station, lodged by the branch manager, Monarch Laishram served as a senior assistant at the same bank branch. His abrupt absence from work since April 2, without prior notification, raised suspicions.

Moreover, it was noted that Monarch held access to the locker room key within the bank premises. Staff members discovered the staggering sum of Rs 2 crore missing from the locker room, prompting the filing of the complaint and subsequent investigations by state authorities to trace the suspect.
