Manipur: Armed Miscreants’ Assault Claims Lives of Two Kuki-Zo Volunteers in Phailengmol Region
Northeast Desk, 13th April: A coordinated assault by a group of armed miscreants in the Phailengmol region of Kangpokpi District has resulted in the tragic deaths of two Kuki-Zo volunteers, sending shock waves across the nation, particularly among the Kuki-Zo community. The ruthless act of violence has prompted widespread condemnation and raised concerns about escalating tensions in the region, casting a shadow over the upcoming electoral process.
In a chilling display of barbarity, the armed miscreants desecrated the bodies of the fallen Kuki-Zo volunteers and fired upon them multiple times, exacerbating the horror of the situation. The outbreak of fresh violence, reportedly fueled by the aggression of armed miscreants, has allegedly spread to Kangpokpi District following their brutal assault on the Peljang Haikot Kuki-Zo villages in Tengnoupal District.
According to the Phailengmol Defense Committee, the tranquillity of Kamu Saichang, Bongjang, and Monglham villages was shattered at 8:30 am on Saturday morning as they faced a meticulously coordinated onslaught from multiple fronts by armed miscreants. The attackers, wielding cutting-edge bulletproof vehicles, launched a devastating assault on the Kuki-Zo at Bongjang old village, triggering intense gunfights.
Another group of armed miscreants attacked Monglham near Karong, sparking fierce exchanges of gunfire across multiple fronts. The armed miscreants, brandishing sophisticated weapons including sniper rifles, were observed maneuvering through the hills, indicating preparations for another impactful assault.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Tribal Unity, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi, called for an emergency meeting in response to the incident in the Phailengmol region.
