Manipur: Arms Cache Seized During Security Operation in Imphal East

Imphal: Security forces in Manipur uncovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in the Awang Potshangbam hills of Imphal East district, police reported on January 25.

Acting on precise intelligence, personnel conducted the operation on January 24 in the Heingang area, targeting suspected hideouts.

The recovered items included one SLR rifle without a magazine, one SMG carbine without a magazine, a .32 pistol marked “Made in USA” with a magazine, two country-made 51mm mortars, two rounds of .32 live ammunition, a 36 hand grenade without a detonator, one Grenade No. 80 Mark-1, a smoke shell with a range of 50 meters, and a Baofeng wireless radio set.

The operation is part of intensified efforts to curb smuggling and illegal activities in the region.

Security forces have ramped up search operations and area domination exercises across vulnerable hill and valley districts.

Additionally, authorities ensured the movement of 342 and 276 vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highways 2 and 37, respectively.

Security convoys were deployed along sensitive stretches to safeguard transportation routes, while strict measures were implemented at vulnerable points.

Across Manipur, 109 checkpoints were established to monitor activities and enhance security.

No detentions were reported during the operations, underscoring the proactive measures taken to maintain peace and order in the state.
