Manipur Artisan Wahengbam Shaya Receives Prestigious Sant Kabir Handloom Award for 2023
Northeast Desk, 29th July: Wahengbam Shaya, a talented artisan from Manipur, has been honored with the Sant Kabir Handloom Award for 2023, also known as the Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay Award, in recognition of her exceptional work in the traditional art of Inaphi weaving.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to social media to commend Shaya’s achievement. “Proud moment for Manipur! Congratulations to Wahengbam Shaya on receiving the Sant Kabir Handloom Award for her outstanding craftsmanship in Inaphi weaving. This recognition highlights the rich cultural heritage of our state,” Singh tweeted.
The Sant Kabir Handloom Award is a prestigious national accolade that celebrates outstanding artisanship in the handloom sector. Shaya’s expertise in Inaphi, a traditional Manipuri textile, has now gained national recognition through this award.
Shaya’s award not only highlights her personal skill and dedication but also shines a spotlight on the traditional weaving techniques of Manipur, bringing them to the attention of a broader audience and ensuring the preservation and appreciation of this intricate craft.
