Guwahati: BJP MLA T Thokchom Satyabrata Singh has been elected as the Speaker of the Manipur’s 12 Legislative Assembly.
Satyabrata Singh won the recently concluded Manipur Assembly elections from the Yaiskul constituency on a BJP ticket.
Satyabrata Singh had served in the previous BJP-led coalition government in Manipur as a cabinet minister.
The newly created Manipur Legislative Assembly began its first session on Thursday.
Following the election of the new Speaker, Manipur Governor La Ganesan addressed the legislature.
Manipur’s new state administration was created after the BJP won a landslide victory in the recent Assembly elections.
The BJP won 32 of the 60 Manipur Assembly seats in the elections, securing a majority.
