Manipur: Authorities Destroy 12 Acres of Illicit Poppy Cultivation in Churachandpur District
Imphal: In a joint operation, the Churachandpur District Police, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Churachandpur, and central forces successfully eradicated approximately 12 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in the Siden Changpikot area within the Dampi Reserve Forest.
The coordinated effort, conducted under the jurisdiction of Sangaikot Police Station, marked a significant step in the region’s fight against illegal drug production.
The operation, aimed at curbing the proliferation of poppy cultivation, also underscored the importance of preserving the ecological balance in the reserve forest.
Authorities emphasized their commitment to continuing such drives as part of an intensified campaign to combat illicit cultivation and safeguard the state’s forested areas.
While the fields were completely destroyed during the operation, further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the illegal activities.
Officials reiterated the necessity of these measures in tackling drug-related crimes and protecting the environment, signaling that more such efforts would follow in the near future.
