Manipur: Bandh Affects Normal Life in Imphal Valley

Guwahati: A proscribed outfit in Imphal Valley of Manipur on Wednesday declared a 24-hour bandh which interrupted daily life.

The bandh was organised by the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM), a party with roots in the valley, in protest of Manipur’s 73-year union with India.

The bandh today caused public transportation between districts and states to stop operating. Businesses and businesses remained closed as well, and few private vehicles were seen on the roads.

Educational institutions also remained closed and government offices registered thin attendance.

However, the bandh had less of an impact in the state’s mountainous regions.

Notably, the former Maharaja of Manipur signed a document for the kingdom’s merger with India on this date in 1949.
