Manipur BJP Candidate Highlights Importance of Repolls; Inner Manipur LS Polls Progress Peacefully
Northeast Desk, 22nd April: Thounaojam Basantakumar Kumar Singh, the BJP candidate from Manipur, underscored the significance of repolls, stating that they are not only necessitated by violence but also technical issues like malfunctioning EVMs.
Singh acknowledged the Election Commission’s challenge in managing around 1319 polling stations on April 19 but commended their efforts in providing proper security arrangements despite unforeseen events leading to the need for repolls.
Addressing allegations by the Congress party, Singh dismissed them as baseless and urged them to provide evidence, emphasizing that elections are conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission, not the BJP.
Meanwhile, in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, elections across 11 polling booths progressed peacefully, with a voter turnout of over 73 percent recorded by 3 pm.
Voters expressed satisfaction at being granted the opportunity to cast their ballots again, with assurances of adequate security measures provided by DC Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana Devi. Devi confirmed that no incidents of violence have been reported so far, indicating a smooth and peaceful conduct of the re-polling process.
