According to reports, the state’s ruling party will convene a meeting on Friday to assess the situation amid indications of a widening rift inside the BJP’s Manipur branch where three MLAs had resigned from executive positions in the previous two weeks. Additionally, BJP MLA Paonam Brojen became the third person to resign.
Thokchom Radheshyaam, another MLA who served as the chief minister’s advisor resigned under similar circumstances on April 8.
The fourth MLA, Khwairakpam Raghumani has reported Asker Ali the leader of the state’s BJP Minority Morcha to the state police over a Facebook post that the legislator deemed to be a “threat” to his life.
Ali reportedly said in Manipuri, “Let this be the last trip to Delhi,” in response to the four MLAs’ choice to criticize the BJP’s senior leadership.
Raghumani alleged in his complaint that Ali “has issued this statement while I am away in Delhi and he seems to be threatening that this will be my last trip to Delhi or anywhere.”
