Manipur Braces for Potential COVID Surge: Governor Chairs High-Level Preparedness Meet
IMPHAL: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today convened a crucial meeting at Raj Bhavan to assess the state’s readiness against a possible resurgence of COVID-19 cases, following fresh directives from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The high-stakes session saw the presence of the Chief Secretary, top medical officials from the State Health Department, and other relevant authorities.
Officials presented a comprehensive overview of Manipur’s current preparedness, covering critical aspects such as diagnostics, availability of protective equipment, oxygen supply infrastructure, capacity of ICU and isolation wards, and essential drug stocks. The effectiveness of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme–Integrated Health Information Platform (IDSP–IHIP) portal was also reviewed, with officials highlighting the state’s current capabilities to handle an increased caseload should the situation demand it. Key challenges, including testing capacity limitations, securing adequate medical supplies, and ensuring hospital readiness, were thoroughly discussed. The paramount need for sufficient medical resources to effectively counter any surge was unequivocally stressed. Authorities acknowledged the imperative for continuous monitoring and a significant upgrade of testing facilities across Manipur.
Governor Bhalla underscored the importance of proactive measures and maintaining robust medical infrastructure. He advised the state to persistently strengthen its healthcare preparedness to remain fully equipped for any potential rise in COVID-19 cases, emphasising strategic planning and judicious resource allocation. Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the critical role of community awareness in managing the pandemic. Strategies to enhance public understanding of preventive measures and the ongoing vaccination drive were deliberated upon to effectively mitigate the virus’s spread. The authorities collectively agreed that sustained vigilance and readiness are non-negotiable in safeguarding the health and well-being of Manipur’s populace, underscoring a united front involving government agencies, healthcare professionals, and the public to navigate the challenges of the evolving pandemic.
