Manipur: Brown sugar worth over Rs 9 crore seized by Mao Police

Northeast Desk, 3rd November: As part of the ongoing War on Drugs 2.0 campaign, a team from the Mao Police Station successfully confiscated approximately 9 crore and 13 lakh rupees worth of brown sugar on the international market.

The illicit drugs were intercepted in a Maruti Suzuki Omni Van, colored blue, with license plate No. NL-01-C-8105.

This incident took place while the police team was conducting routine frisking and checks of commuters along the Pudunamei-Kedima road, approximately 6 kilometers east of the Police station.

During the operation, the vehicle abruptly came to a halt around 100 meters away from the team.

In a suspicious manner, the driver exited the van and fled into the nearby jungle, as there was no adequate space for the vehicle to turn around and escape on the inter-village road.

The police team, alarmed by the driver’s actions, approached the van and conducted a thorough search, leading to the discovery of suspected drugs concealed on both sides of the rear door of the vehicle.

In response to this development, the relevant authorities promptly informed the Deputy Commissioner/Sub-Divisional Police Team (DC/SPT) and requested the presence of a Magistrate. Consequently, ADM/MAO Ningreingam Leisan, an Executive Magistrate, was deputed to oversee the necessary procedures.
