Manipur Cabinet Approves Over 700 Posts for Education Sector
Northeast Desk, 9th February: During a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the Manipur cabinet sanctioned over 700 posts of staff/teachers for the state’s education machinery. A total of 748 posts across different categories were approved on a contractual basis during the meeting.
According to Manipur Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, the decision reflects the crucial role of education in shaping the state’s future. The proposal to engage 742 staff/teachers through the Samagra Shiksha Abhuyan received the cabinet’s nod, with funding shared on a 90:10 basis between the Centre and the state.
The acute shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff in certain areas of Manipur, exacerbated by ethnic violence last year, has impeded the smooth functioning of many schools in the state.
In addition to addressing educational concerns, the cabinet decided to convene the fifth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on February 28. Comprising 60 directly elected members, this assembly holds significant sway over the state’s legislative framework.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governs Manipur, with Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi serving as the party president.
During the upcoming session, the assembly will deliberate on various questions and government bills, as outlined in the provisional calendar and notices received.
Earlier in the day, the cabinet approved an increase in allowances for the Manipur Police Commando and other state forces stationed in vulnerable areas. The allowance for Manipur Police Commando personnel will witness a Rs 5000 increment, effective immediately, while other state forces in vulnerable regions will receive a Rs 3000 allowance increment.
