Manipur Cabinet Meeting Marred by Mass Absenteeism
Imphal: A crucial Cabinet meeting held in Manipur on Sunday was overshadowed by the conspicuous absence of 11 MLAs, including the Jiribam MLA, Md. Achab Uddin.
The meeting, convened to address the ongoing violence and political instability in the state, was marred by this significant lack of participation.
While some MLAs cited personal or medical reasons for their absence, others failed to provide any formal justification. The absentees included prominent figures such as Y. Khemchand Singh, L. Rameshwor Meetei, and Kh. Joykisan.
The absence of the Jiribam MLA is particularly concerning, given the recent escalation of violence in the region. Uddin has publicly expressed frustration over the lack of support from the state government in addressing the crisis. He has been vocal about the need for stronger action against militant groups and has called for the review of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
The Cabinet meeting, attended by 27 MLAs, reviewed the law and order situation and endorsed several resolutions aimed at restoring peace and stability. These resolutions include expediting action against Kuki militants, urging the central government to review AFSPA, and handing over key cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
However, the absence of key lawmakers raises questions about the government’s ability to effectively address the crisis and implement the proposed measures. The ongoing political turmoil in Manipur continues to cast a shadow over the state, with the future remaining uncertain.
