Manipur Chief Minister Highlights Central Government’s Efforts to Address Ethnic Tensions

Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh revealed that the Central Government has been holding crucial meetings aimed at resolving the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur.

Although specific details of the discussions were not disclosed, Singh emphasized their significance in addressing the persistent tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

The conflict, which erupted in *May 2023, has claimed more than *200 lives, leaving deep social and economic scars on the state.

The violence stems from long-standing ethnic tensions between the two groups, with violence severely disrupting everyday life in Manipur.

Chief Minister Singh assured that efforts are ongoing to facilitate dialogue and bridge the gaps of misunderstanding.

“Peace is slowly returning to the region due to the collective efforts of the government and civil society,” he said, expressing hope for a peaceful resolution.

The unrest has caused widespread displacement and a breakdown in communal harmony. However, Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring stability in the state, with continued engagement of all stakeholders in the peace process.

Efforts by the government, local authorities, and civil society groups are expected to continue in order to bring about lasting peace in the region.
