Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Optimistic on Reducing Violence, Expects Resolution Within 2-3 Months

Northeast Desk, 21st June: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has expressed optimism regarding the reduction of violence in the state, noting a significant decrease in incidents over the past 14 months. Addressing reporters, he emphasized that while violence remains a challenge everywhere, Manipur has seen peaceful periods totaling about 7 months out of the observed timeframe.

Singh highlighted the reopening of schools and businesses across the state as indicators of returning normalcy. He attributed the improved situation to the return of security personnel who were deployed for election duties and have now been redeployed to vulnerable areas, enhancing security measures.

Despite acknowledging pockets of ongoing violence, Singh pointed out that efforts are underway to address the root causes, particularly stemming from external sources such as influx and drug issues affecting Northeast India. He assured that addressing these root causes would facilitate easier management of the situation.

Singh also underscored the priority given to resolving Manipur’s issues under the governance of Modi 3.0, mentioning Home Minister Amit Shah’s involvement in high-security meetings aimed at formulating an action plan. He expressed hope for a resolution within the next 2-3 months.

In addition to addressing security concerns, Singh marked International Yoga Day by encouraging regular yoga practice among the people of Manipur, citing its global recognition under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, including acknowledgment by the United Nations.
