Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Resigns Amid No-Confidence Threat
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh tendered his resignation on Sunday, following a meeting with Governor Ajay Bhalla in Imphal.
The resignation came after nearly two years of violence in Manipur.
The Congress had threatened of a no-confidence motion that now is believed to be the primary reason behind Singh’s sudden exit.
According to sources, the Congress was confident of staking claim from dissatisfied BJP MLAs, who were unhappy with Singh’s leadership.
In the lead-up to Singh’s resignation, significant administrative changes were made in the hill districts without the Chief Minister’s explicit approval, further exacerbating the crisis.
Governor Ajay Bhalla has informed the Centre of the evolving situation, paving the way for a new chapter in Manipur’s politics.
