Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Visits Guwahati to Address Border Security Issues with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Northeast Desk, 23th June: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has traveled to Guwahati to meet with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and discuss pressing security concerns along the Jiribam-Cachar inter-state boundary. This meeting follows recent incidents of ethnic violence in Manipur’s Jiribam, which have led affected residents to seek refuge in neighboring Cachar district, Assam.

Accompanied by senior minister L Susindro Singh, Chief Minister Singh departed for Guwahati on Saturday evening to assess the security situation firsthand and strategize on enhancing coordination between police forces. The primary focus will be on addressing militant activities along the border and preventing the spread of ethnic conflict from Manipur into Assam.

Officials anticipate discussions will also include measures to ensure humanitarian aid reaches those affected by the violence and to maintain peace in the ethnically diverse region of Jiribam, which is home to Meiteis, Muslims, Nagas, Kukis, and other communities.

Chief Minister Singh is scheduled to return to Manipur following the conclusion of these deliberations on Sunday. Authorities have already heightened vigilance along the Assam-Manipur inter-state boundary, implementing enhanced patrolling and area dominance strategies to uphold stability in the area.
