Manipur: Churachandpur Reels Under Shock as Nine-Year-Old Found Dead in Relief Camp
Imphal: A wave of outrage has swept through Manipur following the discovery of the lifeless body of a nine-year-old girl, Mandeihkim, within a relief camp located in the Lanva TD block, Lingsiphai, Churachandpur district.
The tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, sending shockwaves through the community.
The young girl was reported missing from the camp on the evening of March 20th, prompting an immediate search by her distressed family, according to official reports.
Tragically, their efforts culminated in the grim discovery of Mandeihkim’s body within the confines of the relief camp compound later that night.
Preliminary investigations have raised suspicions of a heinous crime, with authorities indicating the possibility of rape.
Further adding to the gravity of the situation, reports have emerged of an injury mark found on the child’s neck, and bloodstains discovered at the scene. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the precise cause of death.
The brutal murder has ignited a firestorm of condemnation from various Manipur-based organizations, including the Young Vaiphei Association and the Zomi Mothers’ Association. These groups have voiced their deep anguish over the “spine-chilling” incident and are demanding a comprehensive and swift investigation.
The organizations have issued a strong call for the swift apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for this “inhuman act.” They have also extended their heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, while imploring the police and relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served without delay.
