Manipur CM Assures Vigilance Amidst Relative Calm; Rules Out UCC Implementation
Northeast Desk, 25th February: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on February 25 affirmed that the state has witnessed a period of relative peace in the last three to four months, with no untoward incidents reported.
While acknowledging previous law and order challenges, particularly in urban areas due to miscreants, Singh assured that the government, notably the home ministry, remains vigilant and prepared to take stringent measures to maintain control.
Addressing the issue of Uniform Civil Code implementation in the state, the Chief Minister clarified that the government currently has no intentions to introduce it.
However, tensions flared on February 24 when assailants set ablaze the office of the United Committee Manipur (UCM) in Lamphel, Imphal West district, during the early hours.
This incident exacerbated the already tense atmosphere in the region, following a blast outside the DM College at Thangmeiband in Imphal West on February 23.
Tragically, the blast resulted in the loss of 24-year-old Oinam Kenegy’s life, with two others sustaining injuries, one of whom remains in critical condition.
The incidents underscore the delicate security situation in Manipur, despite recent periods of relative calm.
