Manipur CM Biren Singh likely to resign as violence continues
National desk, 30 June: In the most recent development in the ongoing violence in Manipur, Chief minister N Biren Singh is likely to resign on Friday at around 1 pm.
According to reports, Biren Singh will tender his resignation to Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey as he is unable to bring the state in peace and harmony after almost 60 days of violence.
Reportedly, Biren Singh had the choice of withdrawing his paper or letting the Centre take over. Accordingly, the chief minister was left with no choice but to tender his resignation.
Additionally, the Assembly will probably remain suspended indefinitely. Reportedly, as of the time this report was filed a high-level conference with the Home Ministry in the chair was taking place to discuss the evolving situation in Manipur.
Since May 3, there have been around 130 fatalities in the conflict between the Meiteis and the Kukis and numerous homes were raised in the ground.
It should be noted that this incident occurred when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is touring the violent state to assess the situation.
