Manipur CM Condemns Drone Bombing Incident, Assures Investigation
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the recent drone bombing at Kangchup Foothill in Imphal West, calling it “unfortunate” and assuring that police are investigating the incident to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The attack occurred near the 5th Manipur Rifles (MR) camp on January 14, targeting a temporary camp at approximately 9:30 PM.
Speaking to reporters, Singh expressed concern over the attack, emphasizing that while violence in the region had subsided in recent months, the drone bombing was deeply regrettable. He assured the public that law enforcement was actively pursuing legal action against those responsible.
The bombing involved two bombs, suspected to have been dropped by drones operated by Kuki militants. The explosives detonated near a bunker within the camp but fortunately caused no injuries. This incident marks the second drone attack in the region in recent months, with a similar attack occurring in September 2024 at Koutruk in Imphal West.
Police and forensic experts have recovered remnants of the bombs and other related devices for analysis. Lamshang police have registered a case and are working on leads to identify the attackers.
