Manipur CM Establishes Grievance Cell for IDPs, Pledges Support for Health and Education

Northeast, August 18, 2024 — In a proactive move to address the challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh held a crucial meeting at his official residence on August 17. During the discussion, IDPs from various camps shared their hardships, highlighting issues related to health care, education for their children, and the lack of proper settlements.

Responding to their concerns, the Chief Minister announced several immediate measures, including the establishment of a dedicated grievance cell to handle complaints specifically related to health and education. This initiative is expected to streamline support and ensure that the needs of the IDPs are met promptly.

One of the key actions taken by the government is the setup of medicine counters at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). These counters will allow IDPs to access necessary medicines on a credit basis, easing their financial burden.

Furthermore, IDP cardholders will benefit from a new initiative allowing them free transportation services on city buses operated by the Manipur State Transport Corporation. The Chief Minister also directed all Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to conduct regular visits to the relief camps within their constituencies every 15 days to monitor the situation and address emerging issues.

The Department of Education will manage the grievance cell for education-related matters, while the Health Services Department will oversee health-related concerns. This coordinated effort by the state government reflects its commitment to improving the lives of IDPs and ensuring their well-being during these challenging times.
