Manipur CM Expresses Gratitude to PM Modi for Rs 18 Crore Allocation for Manipuri Language and Script

Northeast Desk, 19th August: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the allocation of Rs 18 crore as the first installment aimed at the conservation and promotion of the Manipuri language and its script. This significant funding underscores the government’s recognition of the cultural and historical importance of the Manipuri language, which has been in use for over 2,000 years, as reflected in the royal chronicles of Manipur.

Singh also acknowledged the continuous efforts of Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, who has been instrumental in advocating for the elevation of Manipuri to the status of a classical language. Maharaja Leishemba shared the news on social media platform X, noting the positive strides toward achieving this prestigious recognition for Manipuri.

In addition to promoting Meiteilon, the Chief Minister highlighted the state government’s ongoing initiatives to protect and preserve the various tribal dialects spoken in Manipur. These efforts include the implementation of courses, activities, and programs designed to safeguard the linguistic diversity of the region.

The release of the Rs 18 crore installment marks a pivotal step in preserving the rich linguistic heritage of Manipur, as the state continues its journey toward achieving classical language status for Manipuri.
