Manipur CM N Biren Singh Addresses Women’s Groups and Warns Against Escalating Violence

Northeast, 5th Jan: In a recent engagement at the Durbar Hall of the secretariat, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh led discussions with women’s groups in Sekmai and Lamsang. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the women’s unwavering support, emphasizing their vital role in the success of government initiatives.

Singh highlighted various measures aimed at maintaining harmony and implementing welfare programs, acknowledging the enthusiasm of the women’s community as instrumental in the state’s overall well-being.

However, against the backdrop of escalating violence in Manipur, Singh issued a stern warning on January 3, expressing deep distress over recent violent incidents, including the Lilong Chingjao firing in Thoubal district. This tragic incident, linked to disputes over illegal drug trade revenue, claimed the lives of four villagers at the hands of Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) cadres, the political wing of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

CM N Biren Singh visited the injured at Raj Medicity and condemned the acts in a heartfelt video message, urging the people of Lilong to maintain peace. He reiterated the government’s strong stance against lawlessness, emphasizing strict measures against those taking the law into their own hands. Singh also warned of the potential reinstatement of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) if the situation demands it.
