Manipur CM N Biren Singh and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Discuss Acceleration of Highway Projects
Imphal: In a bid to boost infrastructure development, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh engaged in discussions with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite ongoing highway projects in the state.
The meeting took place in New Delhi during the Review Meeting of National Highway Projects in the North-East.
In a social media post, Singh described the talks as “productive,” emphasizing the focus on addressing challenges and speeding up the progress of existing highway projects.
He also revealed that new projects are set to be launched, signaling a continued effort to enhance connectivity across Manipur.
Meanwhile, in line with the development agenda, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Jiribam issued an order to clear all structures within the Right of Way (ROW) along National Highway 37. This directive follows a mandate from the Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam, aimed at facilitating the expansion of the highway.
Authorities had earlier issued public notices on May 13, 2024, and October 14, 2024, informing landowners of the planned acquisition for the highway development.
The notices, numbered No. 1/1/1/2024/DC (JBM) and No. 1/1/1/2-24/DC (JBM)/199, instructed the affected property owners to hand over their land to the Deputy Commissioner or the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to allow for uninterrupted progress on the project.
These steps underline the concerted efforts by both the state and central government to improve infrastructure, which is seen as vital to Manipur’s growth and connectivity within the region.
