Manipur CM N Biren Singh Condemns Ambush on Security Team in Jiribam, Calls for Swift Action

Northeast Desk, 10th June: In the wake of escalating violence in Manipur’s Jiribam area, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has issued a strong condemnation of an ambush on his advance security team, labeling the incident “very unfortunate and highly condemnable.” Singh emphasized that the attacks are a direct assault not only on his leadership but also on the people of Manipur.

During a visit to SHIJA Hospital to check on the injured security personnel from the ambush, Chief Minister Singh stressed the urgency of a robust governmental response. “It is an attack directly on the Chief Minister, means directly on the people of the state. So, the State Government has to do something. I will take a call with all of my colleagues, and we will make a decision,” he stated, highlighting his intent to consult with his cabinet to devise a strategic response.

The ambush occurred near T Laijang, close to Kotlen on NH 37 Jiribam road at around 10:30 am on June 10, targeting an advance security team tasked with ensuring the safety of Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s upcoming visit to Jiribam. One security personnel sustained injuries during the attack.

In response, a joint operation comprising police commandos and Assam Rifles is currently underway to locate the perpetrators and secure the area.
