Manipur CM N. Biren Singh Highlights Development Efforts Amid Challenges

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to balanced development across both the hills and valley regions despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ethnic unrest. Speaking on February 3, he emphasized that the BJP-led administration has remained steadfast in its efforts to drive progress while working towards restoring peace.

Addressing reporters, Singh acknowledged that nearly two and a half years were lost to the pandemic, and since May 3, 2023, ethnic clashes have further disrupted governance, resulting in over 250 casualties and thousands left homeless. However, he stressed that the government has continued its developmental initiatives and remained dedicated to resolving ongoing tensions.

Singh made these remarks while laying the foundation stone for multi-storied government quarters at Langol in Imphal West district, with similar residential buildings planned for government employees at New Checkon in the state capital. He urged citizens to take responsibility for environmental conservation, maintain cleanliness, and prevent drains from getting blocked.

Among key infrastructure projects, Singh highlighted the rejuvenation of the Lamphalpat wetlands, which he envisions as a future recreational hub. He also directed contractors to ensure timely completion of development projects across the state.

In a separate event, the CM inaugurated an Art and Culture building and an Open Gym, while also laying foundation stones for a 33/11 KVA Sub Station and a swimming pool at Manipur University, Canchipur. Addressing students, he encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to society after completing their education.

Singh further stressed the importance of academic discussions involving faculty, researchers, and students to better understand and address the core issues surrounding the state’s ethnic conflict.
